Support

A short manual, and a person at the other end.

Scrub Data is a small app with a small surface area. Most questions are answered below; anything else can go straight to email.

Replies usually within two working days. Include your iOS version and the file format if something did not scrub as expected.

Getting started

01Grant photo access

Choose Selected Photos if you prefer. Scrub Data works identically with limited access; it only ever sees the files you hand it.

02Inspect before you scrub

Open a photo and read the report. The risk score is a summary of the field list below it, not a separate judgement.

03Pick a mode

Remove all data strips everything the format allows. Privacy essentials keeps orientation and colour profile so the photo still displays correctly.

04Share the clean copy

Scrub Data saves a new file next to the original. Share that one; the original is untouched and still carries its metadata.

If something is wrong

The scrubbed photo looks rotated or washed out

That is Remove all data doing its job: orientation and colour profile are metadata too. Switch to Privacy essentials and scrub the original again.

Some fields are still there after scrubbing

A few formats keep structural tags that cannot be removed without re-encoding the image, which would reduce quality. Scrub Data lists anything it keeps, and why, in the Kept group of the report.

The location on the map is not where I was

The map shows the coordinates written into the file. If GPS was weak when the photo was taken, the recorded position can be some distance off. Scrub removes the field either way.

A batch stopped part way through

Batches are processed one file at a time and can be resumed; already-scrubbed copies are kept. If a specific file fails repeatedly, send its format and iOS version to support.

I want the original deleted after scrubbing

Scrub Data will not delete your photos. Remove the original in the Photos app once you have checked the clean copy.
